How Harry's Honeybees began
About Harry’s Honeybees
Hi, I’m Harry – the beekeeper behind Harry’s Honeybees.
I started beekeeping at just 13 years old, after receiving my first hive for Christmas. Based on our family farm in Clyst Hydon, near Exeter in East Devon, I quickly became fascinated not just with keeping bees, but with improving them. What began as a small-scale hobby has grown into a rapidly expanding beekeeping operation, now managing over 100 across Devon.
My focus is on breeding high-quality honey bees with strong, reliable characteristics suited to UK conditions. I work with Buckfast bees, selecting and rearing F1 Buckfast queen bees for their calm temperament, productivity, disease resistance, and good overwintering ability.
Careful genetic selection is at the core of what I do, with ongoing efforts to improve colony performance, consistency, and ease of management for beekeepers.
All colonies are managed using practical, sustainable beekeeping methods, including regular inspections, frame cycling, and effective varroa treatment. This ensures that the bees I produce are healthy, well-established, and ready to thrive in a wide range of environments.
At Harry’s Honeybees, I provide:
-
Nucleus colonies (nucs) for sale in Devon and across the UK
-
